Anthony martial set to sign new deal

Image
Jose Mourinho wants rejuvenated Anthony Martial to sign a contract extension and continue his journey to the top with Manchester United. Just a few months ago it seemed a matter of when rather than if the talented forward would be heading for pastures new, with questions lingering over the 23-year-old’s happiness and relationship with the United manager. Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley said in June that his client wanted to leave Old Trafford and Mourinho was willing to sell the forward in the summer – a time when the Portuguese fined him for the way he left their American pre-season tour for the birth of his second child. Reports have bubbled along about the forward’s future with his contract expiring next summer and, while United are almost certain to trigger the one-year extension clause, Mourinho wants Martial – who is not the next Eden Hazard – tied down for longer. “I don’t belong to the discussions of contracts,” the United boss said. “To be honest, I don’t even know th...

What we learned from Chelsea 3:1 victory over crystal palace

Image
Chelsea showed why they should be being spoken about as title contenders after an inspired Alvaro Morata performance leads the Blues to a 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace. The Blues now sit in second just two points behind Manchester City.Chelsea went into the break 1-0 up thanks to Morata’s opener but Townsend equalized with a crisp finish after a beautiful McArthur pass split the Chelsea defence. With the score at 1-1, Sarri called upon Eden Hazard and it took him less than two minutes to assist Morata for his second. The ball found its way through a congested penalty area to the Spaniard who exquisitely placed his ball past Hennessey’s outstretched left foot in the bottom right hand corner of the net. Not long after, Pedro added a third with a perfectly placed effort after a low cross from Marcos Alonso. Morata had the chance to pick up his first hat-trick since Chelsea’s away trip to Stoke last September but his scooped effort failed to beat Hennessey in the Palace goal. Alva...

Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has ended his glittering football career. Drogba, now 40 years old, decided to hang his boots after his team, Phoenix Rising, which he part-owned lost to Louisville City in the USL Cup final. It was the final of U.S. football’s second tier. According to BBC Sport, co-owner of Rising, Berke Bakay thanked Drogba for his “amazing contributions to the beautiful sport” after Friday’s loss. Drogba scored a goal in each of the club’s three play-off matches en route to their first ever USL Cup final. You have laid the foundation of something really special that we are all going to enjoy for many years to come,” tweeted Bakay. Before the final, Bakay told BBC World Service that Drogba would be moving into the boardroom after retiring. Writing on the Phoenix Rising website last month, Drogba had said: “I joke with people that they need to give me the cup, so I can retire in peace. And that if I don’t get it, I’ll come ba...
