What we learned from Chelsea 3:1 victory over crystal palace

Image
Chelsea showed why they should be being spoken about as title contenders after an inspired Alvaro Morata performance leads the Blues to a 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace. The Blues now sit in second just two points behind Manchester City.Chelsea went into the break 1-0 up thanks to Morata’s opener but Townsend equalized with a crisp finish after a beautiful McArthur pass split the Chelsea defence. With the score at 1-1, Sarri called upon Eden Hazard and it took him less than two minutes to assist Morata for his second. The ball found its way through a congested penalty area to the Spaniard who exquisitely placed his ball past Hennessey’s outstretched left foot in the bottom right hand corner of the net. Not long after, Pedro added a third with a perfectly placed effort after a low cross from Marcos Alonso. Anthony martial set to sign new deal

Jose Mourinho wants rejuvenated Anthony Martial to sign a contract extension and continue his journey to the top with Manchester United. Just a few months ago it seemed a matter of when rather than if the talented forward would be heading for pastures new, with questions lingering over the 23-year-old’s happiness and relationship with the United manager. Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley said in June that his client wanted to leave Old Trafford and Mourinho was willing to sell the forward in the summer – a time when the Portuguese fined him for the way he left their American pre-season tour for the birth of his second child. Reports have bubbled along about the forward’s future with his contract expiring next summer and, while United are almost certain to trigger the one-year extension clause, Mourinho wants Martial – who is not the next Eden Hazard – tied down for longer. “I don’t belong to the discussions of contracts,” the United boss said. “To be honest, I don’t even know th...

Esperance Tunis wins the caf champion's league trophy by defeating Al Ahly

Image
Esperance got the goals they required to come back in impressive fashion from a two-goal deficit and win the CAF Champions League with a 3-0 home win over Al Ahly on Friday. The Tunisian giants were propelled to their third title by 24-year-old Saad Beguir and his midfield partner Anice Badri. Beguir's double reduced the deficit in the second leg in front of 60,000 rabid fans at the Stade Rades, on the outskirts of the Tunisian capital, before Badri put the outcome beyond doubt with a goal on the counterattack just before the end. Ahly had been fancied to extend their record run of titles after going into the game with a   3-1 advantage from last Friday's controversial first leg in Alexandria . However, Beguir and his teammates had other ideas. His pair of goals came with eight minutes of each other and were due reward for Esperance's attacking enterprise, which they were slow to show at the beginning of the game but then got going as they slowly took con...
